• Father: Does work that requires him to travel. He is scared of Sage, becuase he is strong and his grandfather raised him. He married into the Date family.

• Mother, Tomaru: Second only to Sage's grandfather (her father) in the dojo. She's soft spoken and lets her father raise Sage the way he sees fit.

• Grandfather, Yuji: The head of the Date household, is strict with Sage's upbringing, and raised him to be a kendo master.  His methods of punishment are unusual, he locks Sage in the basement, has a kendo match with Sage, or makes him wash the dojo walls, floor, and cieling.

• Yayoi: Sage's older sister by five years.  Yayoi teases Sage a lot because he always has a girlfriend.  She also teases him about his hair, and being vain. When she is ever at Mia's to visit Sage (actually to flirt with his friends) she calls him Sagey. She is a well known flirt and enjoys flirting with Rowen and Sai especially, since Rowen always stutters when she talks to him and Sai is sweet.

• Satsuki: Sage's younger sister by two years. She doesn't have any interest in kendo. She trys to act like her older sister. (VERY SCARY!!!!!)

Sage may live on the outskirts of Sendai, in the family dojo, which he will one day hopefully inherit. He is known as the 'young master.'

    Even when Sage was young he LOVED Kendo.

    For generations, the Date family has passed down the story of an armor, Halo.

    When Sage was 13 he won that year's spring kendo tournament for Northeast Japan, Shingo Kazamatsuri hadn't attended. The next year he entered that same tournament.  Sage and Shingo were finalists. During the fight, when Shingo was losing, he threw something into Sage's eye. However, only Sage's left eye was affected, his right covered by his hair. Angrily, he knocked off Shingo's face protector (HUGE breach of etiquette) and knocked him out.

    No one else noticed what Shingo did. Sage's grandfather, furious, sent Sage down to the basement for punishment. It wasn't till later when Shingo woke up did everyone learn the truth. By drawing shame to himself, Sage 'saved' Shingo because if Shingo's deception had become known he would have been forever banned from Kendo. While in the basement, Sage found Halo.

    Sage's green armor is Halo, and draws power from any light source. He has a sword, that can be hung on his back. Sage is a master with a blade, he can wield his sword with one or two hands. His special attack is, Thunder Bolt Cut, which is either a ball of light thrown from his blade or a focused on his blade as he jumps and slashes.

    Sage is very proper, and speaks a very formal version of Japanese. He hates lies and evil. Though often in control and calm, Sage can be driven into a nearly blind rage. He is identified as the pretty boy of the group.

    When Sage was very young, his health was very fragile. His family dressed him up as a girl, a belief that girls are easier to raise than boys. Sage doesn't remember this.

    During Sage's rebellious childhood, he once took the family's sacred sword and played with it in the courtyard. While playing, he broke one of his grandfather's bonzais. His grandfather never noticed becuase a tulip was placed there but Sage dreaded the punishment that would come if his grandfather ever found out.

    In elementary school, Sage's friends usually cried whenever they saw both of his eyes, saying it looked scary. Sage's eyesight is very sharp and the paleness of his eyes makes them look hard. Yayoi suggested Sage cover one of his eyes so his friends wouldn't be scared.

    Also during that time, Sage's sister would use him like a toy for dress up. Yayoi has a picture of him with ribbons in his hair.

    Sage was vice-president of the Kendo club at his junior high in seventh grade and the president in eighth grade.

    Because of the battle with Talpa which occurred in the spring, Sage did not attend the kendo tournament. Shingo won the championship that year and later wrote a letter to Sage, hoping that they'll meet at next year's tournament. It was in this letter that Rowen and Kento got the idea to cut Sage's hair. Shingo had written that Sage didn't look bad with both eyes, why didn't he cut his hair? Rowen and Sai chased Sage with scissors. (Now what's that about not running with sharp objects?) They didn't read the postcript where Shingo speculated that maybe Sage's victory was due partly to how intimidating Sage looks with both eyes showing. 

    Once, Sage told everyone that the day he was born, his parents couldn't think of a name for him.  He told them that while they were going to the hospital, they passed Russell Sage College.  Sage told them that it was a choice of naming him either Russell or Sage and that's how he got his name.  Much later on, the Ronins find out that it was just a joke that Sage made up.  Sage didn't realize that they believed it.

Personality: Sage is easily the most popular guy at school.  Practically every girl at school is in love with him and most of the time, he doesn't realize it.  But when it comes to anything other than noticing when a girl is flirting with him or understanding Rowen, he's not as dense.  He's very hard on himself and forced a strict code of honor upon himself.  Like the others, he would do anything to protect his friends and family. 

    Sage is courteous and smart, but he has a bad temper.  He often loses himself in his anger and can't control himself (at one point, he begins attending anger management classes).  He's gotten into many fist fights, even with the other Ronins.  He hates lying, but often finds himself doing this because of the secret armor.  Also, he takes his job as a Ronin very seriously.  He always understood that it was his fate to protect the mortal world, and he never regretted this job.
