• Father: Former professional wildlife photographer.  He died when Ryo was 10 years old
• Mother: Died in childbirth

    Ryo's family, the Sanada, was a famous ninja clan. Ryo has never met them since his father, the heir, left the family because he disliked the strict conventions the family kept. Nearly his entire life, Ryo lived in a log cabin in the mountains either in or near protected forests.  When his father died, he moved in with his aunt.  She still kept the log cabin for him.  It is very far in since Ryo must walk about 9 miles to get to school.

Ryo recieved his armor when he was 9 years old. Poachers were caught in a forest fire they started to flush out game. Ryo wanted to stop the fire, to save the animals, his home, and the poachers (even though earlier they had threatened to shoot him for standing up to them.) The kanji 'JIN' appeared on his forehead and the fire was absorbed into him, forming the undergear.

Ryo's armor is the Wildfire, and draws power from any fire source. He has two swords, that are sheathed on his back. His special attack is Flare Up Now, which is like a long vertical beam of fire.

Ryo is totally indifferent to finery and fashion and is not comfortable in social situations. However, he has a large heart and is often cheerful and lively, albeit impatient and stubborn. He loves nature, having grown up in it.

Ronin: Most people think that he's the leader of the Ronin Warriors.  They actually don't have a leader.  The other Ronins used to look to Ryo for some leadership, because he was more experienced with the armor and he was trained by the Ancient One.  He knew the most about the Dynasty in the group (other than Mia).  As time went on, the other Ronins learned more and Ryo was able to relax and just be one of the guys.  He no longer felt that the fate of the world rested on his shoulders.

Personality: Ryo is a very caring person.   He cares about everyone around him, even past enemies.  Ryo has faults, just like evryone else, he's not perfect.  He sometimes becomes jealous of his friends, mostly Sage.  He also likes to do most things on his own, without help.  He needs to work on teamwork a little.  He's also very shy around people he doesn't know and easily gets embarrased.  Ryo doesn't mind teasing much.  But sometimes he gets angry when the guys tease him about how his voice cracks sometimes.  As the series moves on, Ryo becomes cuter and cuter (in a kid kind of way).  He doesn't spaz out as much or act like the most important Ronin Warrior anymore.  I think that he was just getting used to saving the world and was relieved that there were the other Ronins to work with.
